EQUITY HEALTH SERVICES SIGN TECHNICAL AND STRATEGIC MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH KINECTRICS INC. ON RADIO PHARMACEUTICAL AND THERANOSTICS CENTRES

Kinectrics and Equity Health MOU aims to ensure Alberta become a Theranostic hub for world class treatment of cancer patients

Calgary, Alberta June 13, 2024 – EQUITY HEALTH SERVICES (Equity Health) and KINECTRICS INC. (Kinectrics) have signed a MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) whereby Kinectrics offers Equity Health its nuclear licensing expertise and full range of engineering services in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of theranostic centres in the Province of Alberta and across Canada. These theranostic centres will include state-of-the-art radiopharmacy facilities, cyclotrons for isotope production, and therapeutic facilities for patient care. Kinectrics will work closely with Equity Health to provide strategic and technical services that will reduce regulatory risk and burden, ensuring predictable timelines and outcomes.

Through this MOU, Kinectrics will provide Equity Health Services with strategic and technical advice, assistance, and guidance throughout the project lifecycle. From initial planning and tendering, through design, construction, commissioning, and operation, Kinectrics will provide advice on topics including regulatory compliance, accreditation planning, design of radiopharmaceutical and cyclotron facilities, equipment selection and procurement, safety analysis, and license compliance support.
“We are very excited to partner with Kinectrics - a global provider of nuclear lifecycle services, with radiopharmaceutical experience, that provides technical services to the leading industry organizations and who have built some of the most complex nuclear facilities in the world. The partnership to build theranostic centres in Alberta and across Canada will save lives, reduce wait times, and ensure efficient, cost effective and fast delivery of much needed healthcare to those Canadians looking for miracles. It is even more exciting that this world class company is proudly Canadian-owned and operated, with a global reach.”

Equity Health is a Canadian health care company with its head office in Calgary, Alberta with vast experience and expertise in laboratory services, viral testing and many other smart solutions in emergency infrastructure, consultations, e-commerce, etc. Equity Health plans to invest in the establishment of comprehensive theranostic facilities in Alberta and across Canada. These first of its kind facilities will house state-of-art diagnostic imaging such as PET Scanners, CPEC/CT, PET/MR, two cyclotrons, a radio-pharmacy, and cutting-edge radio nucleotide-based treatments.
Kinectrics has expertise in medical isotope production and supply chain management as well as the management and licensing of complex nuclear assets. Kinectrics, through ISOGEN (a Kinectrics and Framatome company), has setup the world’s first isotope production system to produce medical isotopes using a commercial power reactor. In partnership with Bruce Power, ISOGEN is producing Lutetium-177, a medical isotope used for targeted cancer therapeutics. Kinectrics is also producing highly enriched Ytterbium-176, which is the stable isotope used to produce Lutetium-177, strengthening the radiopharmaceutical supply chain and reducing reliance on Russian material.
“We see this project as a logical extension of the work that we have done on the safety and licensing of radio pharmaceutical operations, including irradiation, separation, and transportation.  Under this MOU we will extend our services to provide our technical expertise in licensing and radio pharmaceuticals towards the construction, licensing, and regulatory compliance of radiopharmacy and theranostic facilities. Kinectrics will also lend its expertise in the subsequent monitoring and reporting of the centers to ensure the health and safety of the center’s patients, staff, and general public. We look forward to undertaking this project with Equity Health in Alberta.”
